Storms came and went on Islay, the sea raged and then calmed down. During all this time, the malts for Port Askaig sat undisturbed and peacefully in their casks for 45 long years. 45 years of maturity is something very unusual for an Islay. The Port Askaig is a vatting of five sherry cask matured malts distilled in 1968 from an unnamed distillery that were given 1 year to find each other. Befitting his status, his majesty rests in a noble wooden casket. This exquisite malt from Specialty Drinks Ltd. does not give the slightest hint about its origin. Tasting Notes
Nose : a full fruit basket with ripe dark berries, heavy sherry tones and sweet nectar; finely seasoned with a pinch of menthol
Palate : voluminous and exceptionally complex; gentle honey sweetness and mild fruit notes are harmoniously combined with spicy-hot pepper and perfectly complemented by the aroma of green tea and cinnamon
Finish : long clean and slightly mineral farewell to the palate
