This whiskey was allowed to rest in a hogshead cask made of American oak for 36 years. The distillate absorbed the great character of the wood and developed a full-bodied aroma that is second to none. The bouquet presents a concise oak tone, which is accompanied by fine nuances of vanilla, dried spices and matured tobacco leaves. This beautiful whiskey caresses the palate with a full-bodied, deep aroma. The sweetness of barley sugar is evident, harmoniously accompanied by some fruit, oak, ginger and nutmeg. Finally, the Glenfiddich Rare Collection 1979 ages 36 years into a lingering finish sustained by the sweetness of oak tannins.
Malt Master Brian Kinsman personally handpicked a small number of casks for this exclusive collection. The contents of these casks were distilled in 1979 and then aged in the selected casks. 186 bottles could be filled with the contents of these barrels.
